Part of the Pack

Bennett's eighth birthday marked his entrance into Cub Scouts.

What that means:

every Wednesday night he dons a blue shirt,

goes to the church for an hour,

learns a skill or two from his patient leaders,

laughs with his friends,

magically earns merit badges,

and can't wait to go back the next week.

 

 

He loves it,

so we love it.

 

 

Benito currently belongs to the Wolf Den
with the other eight-year-old boys,
(next year he'll be a bear
and the year after a webelo)
but once a month all the Cub Scout dens and their families come together
for what they call pack meeting.

There's a flag ceremony,
a skit,
a song,
a theme,
some jokes,
some awards,
sometimes a lesson
(this last one was rock climbing & faith),
some activities,
some learning,
some treats
and lots of fun.

This last one was held on the lawn behind the church.

Families in camp chairs,

boys at the picnic tables,

all listening to a lesson about rock climbing and faith.

We made s'mores on the fire,

the kids did activities on the field that related to faith,

and the night ended with a spiritual story.

So great.

Man, do I have a new appreciation for scout leaders and all the work they do!

because your mom didn't know you're supposed to weight the car.
Whoops!

Poor B took last place in every single race.  But it did teach mister competitive a lesson about humility.

And he still managed to love it and have a great time.
