Ping Pong March Madness

WHAT??? March Madness in August?

That's right. The Jory Reunion became Ping Pong Madness at the Depoe Bay, Oregon beach house. For 3 sweet, glorious days from Tuesday August 18th through Thursday August 20th the Jory Clan took its competitiveness to another level. When we arrived on Sunday Jenae mentioned that we should have a Ping Pong Tournament. Stephen accepted the challenge as bracket designer/tournament commissioner. Brackets were created Tuesday morning after all 12 players had a couple days to warm up. Matchups were created at random for the first day. A loser's bracket/late comers bracket was added and Stephen came up strong through the winner's bracket, facing Jim from the loser's bracket. Stephen won in a closely contested match. On Wednesday players were seeded according to their outcomes from Day 1 and there was no loser's bracket. Justin wanted revenge against Stephen after beating the recently arrived Jason in the 2nd round, but lost again in the semifinals. Jim breezed by the competition until he got smoked by Stephen in the finals. Day 3 on Thursday welcomed Bret Parker to the mix. There were several close matches. And after 4 days of being undefeated, Stephen finally lost in the 2nd round to Jason and his long arms in the longest/closest match of the week: 23-21. Jason eventually played Justin in the finals and Justin came out triumphant in another close match.

Thanks to all the tournament players: Braden, Kendra, Brett Jory, Ashley, Eric, Jenae, Bret Parker, Justin, Andrea, Julianne, Stephen, Jason, Connie and Jim! We will see if there will be another ping pong tournament at the next reunion. Perhaps a pool or bocce ball tournament???

Ps--Stephen may have had an unfair advantage warming up two months earlier at the Geddes family reunion in Morro Bay, CA :)

If any of you have any photos of the ping pong action feel free to pass them on. Unfortunately, we did not get any tournament photos on our camera.

One last note: Stephen is very happy to report that there were no trips to the ER or any major illnesses at this family reunion. Let's start a new trend :).
