It's about time

We're moving! Okay, it's only a few miles away, but it will make a world of difference with its third bedroom, additional space, extra bathroom, and big backyard. We've lived in our little matchbox condo for over four years now; in fact, it's the only place we've lived since getting married and the only house Bennett and Eli have ever known. Sniff, sniff . . . So while we'll miss this little living room with all its memories, I'm pretty sure we'll be happy to leave it for a much bigger one.

Thomas and the Redwoods

Yes, yes, we got sucked in to yet another kids' marketing phenom--good ole Thomas the train. A steam engine railroad up in the Santa Cruz Mountains hosted Thomas the Tank Engine this weekend, so my friend Laura and I took our two train-addicted two year-olds for a ride this morning. Bennett and Jordyn lived it up in the bounce house, loved getting tattoos and face paint, couldn't stop running through hay mazes, danced to bluegrass bands during lunch, and soaked in the beauty of the redwood forest on the train ride (oh, wait! that last one was me). Bennett's dream of riding Thomas the Train has finally been fulfilled, even if his fear of the Sir Topham Hat costume rivaled that of Santa Claus.

The young and the angry

Eli has come to want things HIS way in the high chair lately, and if he's not happy we all get to hear about it. As seen here, he was less than thrilled with the peas I fed him. He seems to be expressing those opinions of his more forcefully these days . . . Watch out, world.

Discovery Museum Fun

Bennett, along with friends Jordyn and Maddie, spent the day at the Children's Discovery Museum today; that means getting wet, face painting their own faces, making bubbles, climbing on fire engines and ambulances, and exploring anything and everything. The strangest moment was when I heard someone say "Miss Jory." A former Saratoga High student, she gave me a scare with the six year-old girl by her side. She laughed and assured me she's only babysitting; she's a junior at UC Davis and heading out to Paris for a study abroad next week.

I'm still standing

Eli hasn't tired of his latest skill, although I can't say the same for those of us who are now mere jungle gyms for his climbing pleasure. This kid will pull himself up onto anything that's even remotely vertical or appears to be good for grabbing--i.e. my hair. He now stands next to the dishwasher, reaches in, and pulls out silverware. Lovely. And then there's the bathroom . . . The most amusing part is when he reaches the summit of his mountain, aka coffee table, laundry basket, dining chair, couch, bed, etc., he gets this huge, "look what I did" smile on his face and bangs his hands to make sure we all notice his accomplishment. Our own little King Kong.

Unabashed Harry Potter Geeks

Some of you may remember how we dressed up Bennett as Harry Potter for the release of book #6. This year, being the last book and all, we took it to the next level and dressed up as a family. (Yes, someone must've cast a spell on Stephen, our family muggle, because even he was willing to dress up as Hagrid!) It was even more perfect since Kendra and Joseph--fellow Potter fans--were in town and willing to participate in the festivities. So we all headed over to Hicklebee's for the Saturday morning Book 7 celebration: book readings, trivia, riddles, wandshop, wizard dueling, Neville's toad toss, Quidditch cups (snowcones), Rowling's signature on the store's door from her very first book tour, and of course picking up "Deathly Hallows."
