Chinatown Love

I found some old pictures today

These shots are dated February 13, 2013,
so the kids were probably on mid-winter break
and we were undoubtedly looking for something to do.

I imagine this girl said something like, "Mommy, can we go to the city? Please!!"

Really, how could I not take her?

STOP #1: CHINATOWN

(the world's smallest tourist site)
where we watched them make cookies
and bought some chocolates ones to take home.

After walking around for a while,
we grabbed some yummy noodles for lunch,
ate, and let the kids play at Portsmouth Square.

Then we climbed three flights of stairs
to get to Tin How Temple,
(the one on the left)
the oldest Chinese temple in the U.S.,
to get to golden lanterns, smoky ribbons of incense,
and locals praying to Tin How, the goddess of heaven and sea.

Next up: Slides of Seward Street

Tucked into a mini park in Noe Valley is a steep set of concrete slides
that Liz introduced us to and quickly became the kids' city must-do.
It doesn't matter why we go or what we do in the city,
"we MUST go on the slides!!!!"
Never fail.

On your mark,

get set,

go!

There always seem to be pieces of cardboard at the top of the slide
for you to stick under your bum while you go down,
but you can slide without them.

The climb back up is steeper than it looks.

But completely worth it.

Mystery List Revealed

You guessed it:
Forty things I love about the brand new 40 yr old

31. The fact that he's the only other person in the world who feels as much adoration, entertainment, exasperation, and joy for our children.  He gets it.

32. How he starts every day with a beatboxing session in the shower. He's got mad skills.

33. His love of missionary work and how naturally he shares his beliefs with others.

34. The way he supports me in my hobbies, my calling, my friendships, and my activities.

35. His love of nineties grunge.

36. The salt he's getting with the pepper in his beard.

37. His kind, genuine interest in anyone he meets.

38. Those sexy, rock-hard calves.

39. The depth of his testimony and how it drives him to fully live the gospel and emulate the Savior.

40. The fact that he picked me as his eternal companion.

Almost there

21. That winning smile.

22. The fact that he has never once complained about being the sole breadwinner for our family of five (in the Bay area, no less).

23. His inability to be insincere or dishonest.  No guile for this guy.

24. The way he has coached, supported, sacrificed for, and loved our kids' desire to play soccer, basketball, and all other sports.

25. His money-saving, frugal, financially wise nature that has saved us when we've been in dire straits and kept us safe over the years.

26. The way he so easily adapted to living with a girl. Having all sisters definitely prepared him for marriage.

26. His truly blessed gift of calm.

27. His love of rock music and the fact that he went through a metal phase in high school and college.

28. The thorough preparation he does for any outing. He always has a water bottle, he never forgets his keys, and he always checks the weather.

29. His abhorrence for gossip. He gives others the benefit of the doubt every time.

30. The fact that he lives worthy of and honors his priesthood all the time and sets such a strong example for our boys.
